In large part of my region, ASEAN, we still lack proper protection against violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. As our regional human rights frameworks, such as the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration, are omitting the protection against discrimination and violence on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, human rights violations against are not being addressed. We still witness to date criminalization, imposition of capital punishment and degrading treament towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons.
